    Dwight Cadwell, Pine Knot News|Dec 7, 2018

CLOQUET – One of the most anticipated events in the Santa's Home for the Holidays celebration in Cloquet has fast become the Alumni Hockey game. Featuring alumni from Cloquet, Esko, and Carlton taking on alumni from longtime rival Duluth East, the now annual event was a high-scoring affair, with the Lumberjacks coming out on top by a score of 14-9. Still, it wasn't the score that mattered in the end - it was old friends and opponents out on the ice once again, competing like they did back in t...

"We have a lot more depth this year than we did a year ago," Esko head coach Scott Antonutti said. That depth helped the Eskomos as they used a second half run to distance themselves from the Lumberjacks in the season opener for both teams. The teams traded small...

The Carlton Bulldogs girls volleyball team made its fifth appearance at the Class A State Tournament last week in St. Paul and they were hoping to do something they failed to do in the past four trips south - get a win and play on Saturday. "We had a goal to make it to Saturday and to win that elusive first-ever state tournament match and the girls did just that," said longtime head coach Barb Soukkala. In Thursday's quarterfinal versus Ada-Borup the Bulldogs started fast in the first set, jumpi...

Dwight Cadwell, Sports Pine Knot News|Nov 9, 2018

The Cloquet Lumberjacks were seeking a third consecutive trip to the state football tournament Friday night at Public Schools Stadium in West Duluth, and the 'Jacks were confident coming off a 14-0 shutout win over Hermantown 16 days earlier. But, as the mantra goes, anything can happen in playoffs. Although the Lumberjacks came into the game with four consecutive victories over the Hawks, a determined Hermantown squad ended those hopes as the Hawks bested Cloquet 20-14 to return to the state...

The Cloquet boys cross-country team approached Saturday's 2018 Class AA State Tournament with high hopes, as it was their third trip in as many years to the annual meet at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. The boys team was hoping to improve on its 16th place finish a year ago and all individuals runners - including Lauren Cawcutt for the girls team - were seeking to post their best times of the year. The smallest school in the AA division by far, the state meet is a tough race for the...
