    Dwight Cadwell|Mar 20, 2020

The Cromwell-Wright girls basketball team started off fast at last week's Minnesota girls state basketball tournament, but then they hit a wall - one not of their own making. After winning a quarterfinal game March 12, much of the sports world across the country went dark, including high school sports in Minnesota. "The state tournament weekend right now in my mind stays in the category of 'very deflating,'" head coach Jeff Gronner said. "We were hoping for a second chance at Minneota and a... Full story

    Dwight Cadwell|Jan 17, 2020

Heading into the 2019-2020 season, the CEC wrestling team was behind the 8-ball with lower numbers than expected and injuries. While performing well in individual matches, the team has struggled as a result. Last Thursday the Lumberjacks hosted a quad meet including Cloquet, Proctor-Hermantown, Mille Lacs (Isle and Onamia) and Nashwauk-Keewatin. Each team wrestled against the other three teams. Despite low roster numbers, CEC was able to garner two team victories in the quad meet. The 'Jacks... Full story

    Dwight Cadwell|Dec 13, 2019

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton wrestling team opened its 2019-2020 season with two early meets. Although shorthanded, the team excelled in a quad meet with two victories in Crosby-Ironton, and did very well in Lakeville this past weekend. "With only 25 wrestlers on the squad and losing 12 seniors from a year ago, we will have trouble filling all the weight classes we need to," said head coach Al Denman. "Those on the team now are highly committed, talented and very competitive. We focus on the long...

"In 2018 we had 12 girls qualify in the top 16 for our section meet, eight of whom qualified in individual events," head coach Rachel Peterson said. "In 2019 we had 13 girls qualify in the top 16 for sections with...

"It was the first shift of the game for Olivia," coach Dustin Randall said about Jameson's "golden goal" - a sudden-death goal - in the second overtime of Thursday's section 7A championship girls soccer match vs. the Wildcats. It was the first time the Lumberjacks had won the event since 1985, when Cloquet was combined with Esko and they won both the boys and girls championships. "With the cold wet weather conditions, the course was much slower than the runners are used to," said head coach Chandra Alle... Full story
