Roy Arthur Charon, 88, of Cloquet, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, in Mesa, Arizona after a 14-month battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 10, 1932, the youngest of 10, to Azim and Aurile Charon. Faye Joann Hurst, 69, died peacefully Oct. 19, 2021 in her home, surrounded by the love and care of her children. She was born in Moose Lake on Sept. 7, 1952, to Arthur and Hetty (Aho) Korpela. Faye grew up in Cromwell and settled down to raise a family in Barnum after she married her true love, Dennis Hurst. As Minnesota rushes into postseason football, two Carlton County teams look like contenders to make a state run. Esko in Class AAA and Moose Lake/Willow River in Class AA both have gone undefeated this season and are favorites in sectional play. Numbers of cases and deaths continue to rise in Carlton County with 23 cases on Oct. 18 and a seven-day average of 20. A semi-truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene after his truck rolled into a ditch on Highway 210 just after 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15. According to the Minnesota State Patrol report, 49-year-old Dallas Clinton McCloud of Baudette, Minnesota, was driving an International semi eastbound on Highway 210 near Corona Road when the truck rolled into the ditch. St. Luke’s and Gateway Clinic are partnering on a multi-million dollar project that will bring more healthcare resources to people who live in the Moose Lake area. On Wednesday, the two groups announced a partnership to build Northern Lakes Surgery Center. It will be located in the former Shopko building on County Road 10 in Moose Lake. Nearly half a million firearms deer hunters are preparing for the firearms deer season, which opens Nov. 6. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources wildlife managers report favorable weather so far this year, and good opportunities to harvest deer in most areas.
