Together in life, together in death. Steven and Barbara Kimber of Carlton died in an automobile accident in Scanlon on Aug. 10, 2021. Steve was born July 2, 1941, in Duluth, the son of Marion and Bernadine (Truhn) Kimber, and graduated from Proctor High School. He was a computer programmer and worked hard to support his family through his employment at Carlton County, St. Mary's Hospital, Amsoil, and the Duluth, Winnipeg and Pacific Railway, from which he retired. John Arne Manisto, 91, of Cloquet died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021 in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born on June 24, 1930 in Esko to Hilda E. and Arne F. Manisto. On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Rowe in Saginaw. He and Betty were longtime members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Norman "Dodo" Green Jr., 86, of Scanlon passed away Aug. 15, 2021. Norman was born Oct. 19, 1934, in Scanlon. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ramona. He worked at Potlatch for 41 years and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time at the shack with friends and fishing the St. Louis River. To help ensure public safety and protect natural resources, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources expanded burning restrictions on Tuesday. Retired Cloquet schools superintendent Russell Smith, 80, passed away on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Russ was born in Des Moines on July 14, 1941, to Russell Owen Smith and Margaret Hansen Smith. I frequently see at the Kwik Trip entrance and exit closest to the stop sign on Washington Avenue in Cloquet drivers who are making left turns in and left turns out. This entrance and exit as indicated by signs, is designed for right turns only in and out. I believe it was designed and constructed this way for safety purposes and maybe to avoid congestion. Doris Lorane Naslund, 94, died peacefully at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton on Aug. 10, 2021. She was born April 8, 1927, in Barron County, Wisconsin to Herb and Grace Ellefson, and lived her early years on a farm in central Wisconsin. After graduating high school, she moved to Moose Lake. Rodney H. Peterson, 87, of Cloquet went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021. Rod was raised in Mahtowa on the family farm and attended Park Lake School. He graduated in 1952 from Barnum High School, where he met the love of his life, Esther. Rod worked at Wood Conversion (later Conwed, then USG) for 46 years.
