County Seat Theater Company gets in on the holiday action this month with a side-splitting journey to a small town in Texas in "Christmas Belles." A church Christmas program spins hilariously out of control in this Southern farce about squabbling sisters, family secrets, a surly Santa, a vengeful sheep and a reluctant Elvis impersonator. Numerous shows are already sold out, so getting tickets now will ensure a seat. The County Seat Theater Company will present local performances of "Christmas...

Poirier will fill the one year remaining in the term, until the 2024 election. It isn’t new ground for Poirier, who once served on the Barnum school board for 12 years. He was appoint...

Thumbs down to preconditions on consolidation discussions with Wrenshall by the Carlton school board. It’s not really a good faith negotiation if the precondition limits the options to one plan. Carlton officials stipulated that a joint school needs to be at South Terrace, where the city’s elementary school is currently located. The school board members say it makes no sense to have two buildings, referring to previous consolidation discussions that included starting a high school in Wrenshall and elementary school in Carlton in existing bui...

Jim and Colleen Myhre purchased what was then 29 Pines golf course just before Labor Day 2020, renamed it Rugged Spruce and - though Jim had just retired - life got very busy. The purchase wouldn't have happened without timing and a certain inspirational phrase, said Jim, who had just retired. The saying came from a story a friend told Jim about hiring someone to cut down a tree right next to his house. "The professional eyed up the tree and agreed that it was going to be a tricky fall," Myhre...

Other than the weather, all the various event...

Observed on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day was originally set aside to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Local honor guard members and other veterans groups treat Memorial Day — and their stops at various cemeteries — as a sacred duty. Cloquet Combined Honor Guard Captain Rich Chassé said...
