    Sherry Trettel, 75, of New Brighton, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021, after another courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 31, 1946, in International Falls to Louis and Marie (Dixon) Kubis. Sherry worked for many retail companies including JC Penney and Macy's, and Lutheran Brotherhood (which later became Thrivent). She enjoyed playing slots at the casinos in her spare time.     The girls and boys Lumberjacks hockey teams skated with younger area hockey players during the "Skate with the Jacks" event Sunday afternoon at Northwoods Credit Union Arena in Cloquet. Ann Dunaiski estimated about 60 players attended, along with 75 youngsters, with free pizza and drinks provided for all. It was the first Skate with the Jacks gathering since the start of the pandemic. Roland was born Sept. 4, 1933, the son of Olof and Emma (Knuti) Bromberg, on the family farm in Aurora. His father worked for Red Owl and the family moved throughout northern Minnesota before settling in Fergus Falls.     We have found some more clues in the curious case of a plaque honoring Sigfred Johnson, a World War II veteran from Cloquet who died in 1948. As reported in the Dec. 17 issue of the Pine Knot, the plaque was discovered hanging on a wall at a salvage yard in the area.     An empty semi-truck that was stuck on the railroad tracks near the Sappi guardhouse was hit by a Burlington Northern train Monday. According to Cloquet Area Fire District battalion chief Jeremy Hutchison there were no injuries: the driver had gotten out of the truck before it was struck by the train.     With the more highly transmissible Omicron variant now the dominant Covid-19 strain across the state and much of the country and world, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new quarantine guidelines Monday.
