Two artists in residency, Michelle Defoe and Moira Villiard, worked with Cloquet students to create two murals — one at Cloquet High School and one at Cloquet Middle School — over the past few months. Lois Grace Lennartson of Midway Township went to her heavenly home Saturday, June 1, 2024. Lois was born June 3, 1927. She died just two days before her 97th birthday. Lois was the daughter of George and Hedwig Thorburg. She was one of four daughters, with Lindus being her identical twin. Lois married Elmer Lennartson on July 30, 1949. Darlene R. MacMillan, 77, of Carlton passed away May 26, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. She was born June 10, 1946, the daughter of Charlie and Myrtle (Moe) Olesiak, and grew up on the family farm in Sawyer, Minnesota. Darlene graduated from Carlton High School, and married Danny MacMillan in 1965. They raised three children on the farm in Atkinson, and she also worked as a nurse's aide in Cloquet until retiring. They did it the hard way, but the Esko baseball team is the 2024 Section 7AA champion again. The defending state champs fell to Marshall Wednesday 9-0 but climbed back into the championship game and won a trip back to State.
