For the fifth time in a row, the Cloquet High School boys golf team won the Section 7AA tournament and will return to the prestigious Minnesota state golf tournament. Probably more of a surprise was the outstanding finish by the Cloquet High School girls golf team. My week off from chemo seemed to be the longest week in a while because once you are on a weekly infusion schedule, taking a week off seems weird. But now I am back on a regular schedule for three more weeks. The infusions go well now that I have a port for the blood draws and infusions, so I’m back on track. The partnership between the Duluth Huskies and the Cloquet Public Library for our summer event “Knock Summer Reading Out of the Park!” began in 2017, and we are excited to resume it this summer after the pandemic. Edwin Ralph Henninger passed away at the age of 96 on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born, raised and spent his life in the rural area east of Barnum. Ed worked for the Soo Line Railroad from the age of 15 to 65. He worked for years on track gangs, followed by dozer and dragline operations. Mary Lou Olness was born on Nov. 17, 1955, in Bagley, Minnesota to Gorde and Viola (Johnson) Olness. Elma M. Knickerbocker, 86, died peacefully in her sleep on June 1, 2023, at Miller-Dwan. She was a long-term Scanlon resident, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a loyal friend to many. Her numerous friendships included the women on her bowling and softball squads, of which she was proudly an active member as a proficient bowler and a reliable catcher. John Harold "Jack" Dahl, 88, of Cloquet passed away June 1, 2023, at Community Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Minneapolis to Harold and Marlowe (Stewart) Dahl. Manfred Anton "Manny" Spendler of Venice, Florida died unexpectedly at home Feb. 23, 2023. He was born in Dorsten, Germany to Alfred and Cecilla Spendler on March 13, 1938.
