Not even bad weather could stop the 20th Ashley Abrahamson Memorial Softball tournament last weekend in Cloquet at Braun Park. A total of 19 teams converged on the complex at Hilltop and, despite an overnight thunderstorm, play went on almost as scheduled on Sunday. "The Braun complex is just a tremendous complex and the fields handle the water so well," said tournament co-director Ron Tondryk. "I really need to commend Jeff Woollett and his crew for the great job they did at getting the fields...
Over the last week of June, upcoming Lumberjack wrestlers woke up early and headed to Cloquet Senior High School, where they spent several hours a day learning the skills needed to one day stand at the top of the podium. Mike "Beatsie" Rosen and Gerald "Jiggs" La Breche recently talked about their experiences of caddying at the CCC. Beatsie and Jiggs are... Full story
Our anchor tethered us to the rocks below. The current ripped underneath our bow and poured out the backside of the Lund. I threaded half a crawler onto my orange jig and plopped it over the transom. The jig tumbled away quickly in the rapids. Lifting my rod tip to the sky, I could feel it ticking and tumbling through the riprap below. The last dozen times the jig and crawler made the journey ended the same way: in the mouth of a walleye. On cue, I felt the familiar thunk of a bite. I snapped...

Two-year-old Gavin Ott photobombed this picture of a group of Carlton County U-12 softball players - including his two big sisters - by jumping in front of the camera and softly whispering "cheese" as the shutter snapped. His sisters' team, Carlton Meat and Groceries, went on to win the U-12 Tier 1 championship game Sunday afternoon at Cloquet's Braun Park. Find out more about the annual Ashley Abrahamson Tournament on Page 11....
Nick Wright places an American flag above a giant basket of petunias on Avenue C Monday in preparation for the July Fourth holiday, as he and other city workers made their way through the West End and downtown getting the city dressed up in red, white and blue. The back of the city truck had a barrel of flags. The Pine Knot News went to press before the grand birthday celebration. Don't worry - check out next week's Pine Knot News for photos and words about Cloquet's grandest annual...
