A fire destroyed an unattached garage in Atkinson Township north of Mahtowa Friday, March 1. Fire crews and emergency responders were called to the 3100 block of Carlton County Road 144 at about 4:30 p.m. There was no one home, and the fire had taken over a garage and was threatening a nearby pole barn. Public finance advisers Ehlers told the Carlton school board on Monday that a consolidation with Wrenshall would be close to revenue-neutral with only a slight decrease in state aid for the new combined school district.
