Ernest Henninger, 89, lifelong resident of Barnum Township, died peacefully Oct. 29, 2021 in Sandstone Health Care Center. He was born April 29, 1932 in Barnum to Ralph and Nora Henninger. Ernie attended Central School and later began a 44-year career at Diamond Match in Cloquet. He met Marilyn Pfisthner at the Carlton County fair, and they later married on July 26, 1952. A former Barnum girls basketball coach pleaded guilty Friday to having sex with a player. Andrew Palmer, 34, pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Two other third-degree counts will be dismissed as part of the plea deal. Carlton County Attorney Lauri Ketola said Palmer “provided a factual basis that he had intercourse with the victim,” adding that there was no agreement on sentencing. Carlton County will be running two drive- thru dual influenza and Covid-19 vaccination clinics targeted to Carlton County residents next week. John Patrick Connor, 47, of Barnum passed away on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, in his home. He was born March 30, 1974, in Cloquet to John and MaryAnn (Fisher) Connor. John grew up in Blackhoof Township and graduated from Carlton High School in 1992. He was a manager at McDonald Rental for several years before going to work at Randall Bros.
