  • Korby's Connections: Esko indeed defeated Trotters

    Steve Korby|Dec 8, 2023

There are things happening every day, or that have happened over time in history, that seem hard for us to fathom or believe. The Ripley's Believe It or Not! books and museum are full of snippets that seem misleading, defy logic, or just can't be true. Sports too can present unbelievable odds of an upset ever occurring - and then, it happens. The Harlem Globetrotters - yes, that team - way back in January 1938 came to the Esko gymnasium and lost 42-41 to the Esko Future Farmers of America team....

The annual Churchill Holiday Expo raised more than $10,000 for...

That means the levy increase for property taxes will also be smaller than reflected in recent estimates, with a 2.85-percent levy increase versus 4.53 percent. One local business owner spoke during the Truth in Taxation hearing that preceded the vote. Jim Kuklis, who owns Trails Edge subdivision - consisting of two-family townhomes available for rent by residents over the age of 55...

Unlike at the meeting Nov. 14, when Proulx conducted an in-depth inquiry of county staff and administration and told...

  • Focus on shopping locally Saturday

    Jana Peterson|Nov 24, 2023

Expect lots of shoppers in downtown Cloquet Saturday, as a growing number of businesses are actively participating in Small Business Saturday. In part, that's because the number of businesses across Cloquet is growing, shifting, or under new ownership. • Deer hunt is definitely hit and miss

    Brady Slater|Nov 24, 2023

Wolves and winters. Those are the theories being tossed around related to a Minnesota firearms deer season that data show, and most hunters say, lacked the robust deer populations of yesteryear. "I've got more wolves on my cameras than deer," said Trish King, 68, who hunts on 60 acres along Spring Lake Road in Cloquet. "That's a pretty good indication. They've all got collars on, all got tags on. And there's not a darn thing you can do." On Nov. 14, King harvested a 3-point buck - the only deer...

  • Emerald ash borer threatens northern Minnesota

    Minnesota Department of Natural Resources|Nov 24, 2023
