I attended the annual Harvest Festival at the Cromwell pavilion a few weeks ago. Scheduled for the first weekend after Labor Day every year, the festivities drew a good-sized crowd. The Harvest Fest last weekend in Cromwell seemed to be a huge success. Thanks to all the volunteers and attendees. And they had the most unusual parade this year. There was only one unit this year. But it sure was special, as the grand marshal, Jon Swenson Sr., accompanied by his family, was on an old-fashioned wagon with sides, and it was pulled by an old Ford tractor. You could say that parts of Carlton County lucked out this past Labor Day weekend. Things could have been much worse. The folks at Black Bear Casino Resort turned a torn-down hotel into an opportunity, by planting grass on the demolition site and hosting a hot air balloon festival next weekend. It’s been a long and challenging summer in our part of Carlton County. So little rain, so many detours on Highway 210. Not even one swim in a lake! We’ve made up for it with home improvements.
