1No one knows exactly when the annual Chub Lake cross country meet started, but everyone is in agreement that it was a long time ago and it remains a fun kickoff to the season for area teams. A 21-year-old driver, who struck and killed a pedestrian in Moose Lake in March, is now facing additional charges after blood tests revealed the presence of four drugs in his system. A home in Skelton Township was completely destroyed by an early morning fire Tuesday, Aug. 13. The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office received the 911 call reporting a structure fire at 2:28 a.m. Tuesday on the 3500 block of County Road 157 in Skelton Township, northwest of Barnum. The initial report indicated a house was on fire and all occupants had made it safely outside. Roger Joseph Tillman Sr., 88, of Kettle River passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on July 23, 2024, in Moose Lake at the Moose Lake Village nursing home. Come Thursday, the city of Moose Lake will have officially adopted the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office as its law enforcement provider. Both the county board and Moose Lake city council approved a services agreement this week. The contract begins Aug. 1 and runs through the end of 2026.
