    Pine Knot News|Jul 16, 2021

This weekend Moose Lake and Wright will celebrate their signature events, with Agate Days running Saturday and Sunday and Wrong Days in Wright kicking off Friday. It was business as usual last year — with masks added to the mix — and it’s business as usual this year: think three days of smalltown fun for everyone. Check out...

In the boys discus event, Esko's Gage Stankiewicz was a heavy favorite to take the title, but notice was served by South Ridge's Deekon Anvid in sectionals. Anvid narrowly missed beating Stankiewicz, who had recorded the longest throws in the state this season. In the state meet, Stewartville's Will Tschetter and Anvid both surprised,...

  • Getting in some practice

    Jana Peterson|Jun 4, 2021

Practice makes perfect ... or at least it makes being trapped inside a hot, dark, loud burning building more tolerable. Members of the Cromwell-Wright fire district - along with firefighters from Carlton, Mahtowa, Blackhoof and Floodwood - spent four hours on a weekend in May practicing their firefighting skills with a live fire. Cromwell-Wright fire chief Lucas Goodin said such practice burns are vital to training because they offer real-life conditions versus more usual training, which often i...

  • Graduations are back on track

    May 28, 2021

It was a decision no grandparent should have to make. Phyllis Rousseau thought she was going to have to choose between attending the Carlton and Wrenshall graduation ceremonies — originally scheduled at the same time Friday — and how’s a grandmother supposed to choose between two grandsons who are both valedictorians of their classes? That’s right. Grandson Zeke Rousseau-Sheff is valedictorian for the Class of 2021 in Wrenshall, while grandson Spencer Rousseau is valedictorian for the Class o...

    Pine Knot News|May 28, 2021

    Kerry Rodd|May 28, 2021

Despite going 0-3 over their last three games, the Cromwell-Wright softball team has been impressive this year with a 7-7 record as of Monday. It's been years since they've seen that kind of success. Last week the Cards fell to South Ridge, Chisholm and Barnum, but they are continuing to build a better program. "The last part of our schedule is against some very strong teams," said Cards coach Kari Olesiak. "A majority are teams ranking No. 1 or 2 in their sections. They are teams that can...
