We caught Gerard Sordelet and his "I think Knot" bumper sticker at the West End Flourish earlier this month, left, and presented him with a gift certificate from advertiser Skutevik's Floral. We also spotted Carlton's Larry Hanson, right, at the county recycling center with his bumper sticker perfectly placed on his tailgate. We think that's great, and Larry chose a Burger's Shoes gift certificate for being out and about with his Pine Knot News bumper sticker. He loves the paper, he said. Get... Full story
The designated storm shelter areas of Cloquet Middle School were packed with athletes, coaches and fans Thursday evening as much of Carlton County was under a tornado warning as soccer, volleyball and swim competitions were underway. The shelter was warranted as circulating thunderstorms moved up the Interstate 35 corridor, dumping heavy rain and hail on its way north, where, in Cotton, 36 miles directly north of Cloquet, an tornado touched down, causing minor damage. The National Weather...

Parrott said holding the festival at the candy store property worked well. "We really enjoyed it and I think the public was...
What another beautiful day in our area. The trees are turning color, and the sky has been blue. So much in nature to see and appreciate. I hope you can get out and about to enjoy this time of year. As some of you already know, I have been subbing again this fall. My first day back was Sept. 6 in Floodwood, and I have several more...

September is chock-full of activities and events. The folks that put on the Harvest Fest in Cromwell thank everyone who made the event so successful. There are many people to thank, but here's the main thing: the members of the Community Club and their friends made this event possible. More than $1,000 was made just on the pie sale, quilt raffle and the ice cream sales. The rest of the proceeds will be tabulated; expect a full report soon. It has been so great having students back in the...

For a spring and summer season marked by rain, maybe a bit too much at times, it seems it didn't affect the area weekend celebrations much. Monday was no exception as the annual 11 a.m. Labor Day parade began on a sun-drenched Cloquet Avenue in Cloquet. There were throngs of people along the main drag and throngs of people in the parade as politicians, unions and businesses made their final pitches for the season in 70-degree weather. For kids, with school looming this week, it was a chance for... Full story
