    Jennie K. Hanson|Jun 9, 2023

My week off from chemo seemed to be the longest week in a while because once you are on a weekly infusion schedule, taking a week off seems weird. But now I am back on a regular schedule for three more weeks. The infusions go well now that I have a port for the blood draws and infusions, so I’m back on track. I did shave my head before the last treatment as there was so much hair all over the house you would have thought I had a dog or cat here. Anyway, I got a wig and since I always wear a h...

  • Cloquet seniors pass the four-year test, graduate

    Jana Peterson|Jun 2, 2023

Cloquet High School principal Steve Battaglia made a pretty big announcement at Friday's commencement: for the first time in at least recent memory, every senior was graduating. "We have zero seniors that walked the halls who aren't graduating tonight. Everybody is graduating," he said, as the crowd erupted in applause. There is an asterisk to go with that statement. He meant every senior who was on campus this year. He wasn't including students who moved away, went to other schools or never...

    Mike Creger|Jun 2, 2023

The graduation ceremony in Wrenshall Friday afternoon was remarkable in that it wasn't your typical look back on school years or forward to whatever is next. It was grounded in living every moment, in not taking anything for granted. Salutatorian Wesley Ward told the audience in the gymnasium that memories are precious, like those of last summer when members of the Class of 2023 vowed to stay in touch, get together more often. "Tomorrow is not guaranteed," he said after mentioning fellow...

  • Wright/Cromwell news

    Jennie K. Hanson|Jun 2, 2023

I was diagnosed with Stage 2 aggressive triple-negative breast cancer about two months ago. I have chemotherapy treatments at St. Luke’s in Duluth, but this week is my week off, so just waiting for the tumor to shrink. The side effects so far have been nausea and hair loss. And every time I comb my hair, big wads of hair end up on my comb or in my hands. So far, I still do have some hair. I do have a huge collection of caps and hats, so I should have no trouble having enough cover-ups for my h...

  • Brothers retrace father's final trip

    Mike Creger|Jun 2, 2023

Their dad's plane went down in Cloquet 50 years ago, killing him and an uncle David sat right down in the bramble, overcome with thoughts of what happened in this spot exactly 50 years ago. He is admittedly an emotional person. His body heaved. He was uttering guttural sounds. He was swatting away mosquitoes here on the old Haro homestead off Reservation Road in Cloquet. A hand intermittently went to his mouth in that universal, human sign of shock, grief, overwhelming thoughts. His...

Local honor guard members and other veterans groups treat Memorial Day — and their stops at various cemeteries — as a sacred duty. Cloquet Combined Honor Guard Captain Rich Chassé said...

Minnesota lawmakers finished a momentous session Monday night by passing the final elements of a new $72 billion two-year state budget and shaking loose a record-setting construction projects package that was stalled for months. It was a year in which they legalized marijuana, guaranteed abortion access, boosted school aid, cut some taxes while raising others and much more. The all-DFL power structure at the Capitol passed its entire agenda — one that Republicans fought but couldn’t stop. Debate in the session’s final hours echoed what domin...  Website
