Carlton County will host a walk-in Covid-19 vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlton County Community Services Building in downtown Cloquet. The Minnesota Court of Appeals handed a major victory to Enbridge Energy this week, affirming state utility regulators’ approval of the Canadian company’s Line 3 oil pipeline replacement project. A three-judge panel ruled 2 to 1 that there is substantial evidence to support the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission’s approval of the project. The PUC approved a certificate of need for the Line 3 project twice — in 2018, and again last year. Cloquet city councilors gave the go-ahead to city staff Tuesday to look into charging franchise fees to utility companies as a way to raise money to pay for street and infrastructure improvements. While it’s never an exact science when setting a budget nearly three months before students enter buildings for a new school year, the Cloquet school board approved numbers it was presented with at its regular meeting Monday night. The total operating cost for the 2021-2022 year was estimated at $38.7 million, slightly under proposed revenues. This weekend’s Grandma’s Marathon events will cause delays for traffic headed to Duluth and the North Shore.
