The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development recently announced its latest round of broadband development grants, which will distribute over $50 million in grants to support 26 projects around the state next year. The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office is once again part of the Law Enforcement Scholarship Program. Sheriff Kelly Lake said the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association has established a scholarship fund for up to 18 $2,000 scholarships. It’s been a year since the city of Cloquet denied the transfer of some state aid to the Cloquet Area Fire District for the purchase of a vehicle exhaust removal system. The Duluth Ski and Snowboard Club ski and snowboard swap is back for its 53rd year this weekend at Spirit Mountain’s lower chalet off Grand Avenue. A 37-year-old pipeline worker from Waubun, Minnesota was charged with multiple felony-level assault charges Friday, Oct. 18, after allegedly stabbing a coworker in the home they shared on Reservation Road, outside Cloquet. Cloquet police confirmed Tuesday, Oct. 29, that a deceased person was found in the wooded area behind the 218 Taphouse at approximately 9 p.m. Oct. 18. According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, the driver of a Ford Focus was traveling southbound on Highway 45 and struck the cyclist in the roadway about one mile south of Interstate 35 at approximately 4:44 a.m. Tuesday.
