The 2019 Carlton County Senior and Caregiver Guides are now available at the Volunteer Services building in Carlton. I also have a lot of them and will be putting them in area businesses and handing them out to the senior clubs. These guides are full of much-needed information on issues for our area senior citizens.

Our sympathy to the family and friends of Patricia “Pat” A. Peterson, 83, of Cromwell, who died Oct. 19, 2018 in Cardinal Court, Cromwell. Services were held Oct. 25 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Cromwell.

We lost another Cromwellian also, as Karen Nikko Karppinen, 75, died Oct. 27, 2018. Her funeral arrangements will be announced later.

The following young people were confirmed Oct. 28: Jacob Anderson and Ayden Wilson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church; and Nathan Eliason, NataLee Hakamaki, Alaina Lind, Zevvus Smith, and Chandell Warner at Bethany Lutheran Church. May they cherish their faith and God bless them now and in the future!

“Get well” wishes go out to Dolly Niemi, who is in Augustana Care Center at Moose Lake recuperating from a hip fracture. Cards can be sent to her at: 710 S. Kenwood Ave., Moose Lake MN 55767, Room 408; and to Irene Olson, who is hospitalized in Aitkin at 200 Bunker Hill Dr., Aitkin MN 56431. I’m sure cards or visits would be appreciated.

There is a Community Christmas Choir again this year. Practice will be at 9 a.m. Saturdays at Bethany Lutheran in Cromwell. The performance will be Sunday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. along with a Christmas Candlelight service. Everyone is welcome to participate, even kids.

The Veterans Day program at Villa Vista is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9. All area veterans are encouraged to attend and stay for lunch after the program.

There will be a Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. at the school Monday, Nov. 12 (please note time change from previous years). We would like to invite all area veterans and their families to join us for a program in the Cromwell-Wright High School gymnasium. Please wait in our lobby with fellow veterans and families once you arrive, and we will escort you into the gymnasium at 1 p.m. We are so thankful for our veterans and their families. This is our small way of saying “thank you.” Please help us spread the word!

A community conversation about housing in Carlton County is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Cloquet Middle School in the cafeteria. Light refreshments will be provided, and childcare is available. Over the past few years, housing in Carlton County has become a serious issue for many people. Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection Program: Please continue to save the tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. You can turn them in to the school office or bring to Mrs. Tiili-Anderson’s room. Thanks for supporting such a great cause!

Preschool Census: Counting all new little noses in our district. If you have just moved in or know of a new family, please let us know. You are important to us. The school library staff is looking for volunteers to help shelve books in the library. Just give the school office a call and get to work!

The annual Beehive Mojakka Supper will be held 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Beehive Community Club, County Road 4. Cost: $8/age 13 and up, $5/ages 6-12, and $3/age 5 and under. From the proceeds a donation is made to help benefit Cromwell-Wright and Barnum Dollars for Scholars.

Lakeside Community Club will be having its annual Mojakka Supper at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Cost: $8/adult, $4/age 12 and under. There will be lots and lots drawings for small raffle prizes again this year, beginning at

5:30 p.m.

There is a search for a host family for a bright, polite young man from Poland. He is in need of a host family as soon as possible until the end of the school year, or at least until the end of January. Host families provide three meals a day, a bed, and a caring environment.
