Following is a brief overview of Cloquet police calls for the week ending Nov. 30, 2018, provided by the Cloquet Police Department:
• On Dec. 4, officers responded to a Cloquet restaurant for the report of an intoxicated person who allegedly drove there and was parked on top of the curb. An officer contacted the individual in the driver’s seat, and the individual admitted to drinking before driving, and there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. After performing the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), the individual was placed under arrest and transported to the Carlton County Jail and booked for a DWI.
• On Dec. 5, Cloquet officers responded to a call of a suspicious person and foot tracks near a neighborhood garage. Upon the officers’ arrival, they discovered the vehicle had left the scene before their arrival. The officer was able to follow fresh tire tracks in the area and identified two individuals parked at a gas pump. The driver of the vehicle allowed the officer to search the vehicle and nothing appeared to be stolen. Both parties had invalid driver’s licenses, and the driver was booked at the Carlton County Jail for Driving After Suspension.
• In the early morning of Dec. 5, officers were involved in a traffic pursuit that resulted from a gas drive-off earlier in the morning. Ultimately, the vehicle ended up crashing on Hwy 45 on the Scanlon bridge. The individual jumped out of his car, fled on foot, and was apprehended by officers, with the assistance of the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 Roman. The individual was booked at the Carlton County Jail for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fleeing a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstructing Legal Process, Possession of Hypodermic Needles, Driving After Revocation, and Reckless Driving.
• This week, Cloquet officers were involved in over 140 incidents including traffic violations, thefts, domestic assaults, damage to property, and other calls for service throughout the community.
