CLOQUET police blotter

• On Dec. 9, Cloquet officers responded to a check of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway, where the driver appeared to be asleep. Upon arrival, officers found the doors locked, the car running and in “drive,” and the driver unresponsive. As a precaution, a squad was positioned against the vehicle’s bumper to prevent injury on the scene. A window punch was used to gain access to the inside of the car, and officers removed the individual from the driver seat; the individual began to wake up. While the individual was speaking with officers, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. The Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were performed, and the minor driver was arrested for DWI.

• On the morning of Dec. 10, Cloquet officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a Cloquet residence. Upon arrival, officers located the victim of an apparent domestic assault. After officers separated the two, the suspect was arrested and brought to the Carlton County Jail on a Domestic Assault charge.

• On. Dec. 12, Cloquet officers responded to a disturbance near the Super One parking lot where a male was chasing and trying to fight people. The individual was booked at Carlton County Jail for Disorderly Conduct, False Name, and Threats of Violence.

• On Dec. 14, officers were called to a report of a car that appeared to have struck a tree in the front yard of a house, with the driver appearing to be slumped over the wheel. Officers arrived and determined the driver appeared to be suffering from an overdose. An officer administered Narcan, a medication designed to counter the effects of opioids. Once awakened, the driver was treated by the CAFD and transported to the hospital for a medical assessment. The driver was later arrested for DWI-Controlled Substance, pending the results of a blood toxicology report.

This week, Cloquet officers were involved in 210 incidents including traffic violations, thefts, domestic assaults, damage to property, and other calls for service throughout the community.
