Carlton Fire Department responds to vehicle fire

The Carlton fire department responded to a car fire Sunday, Jan. 6 on Highway 210 just east of the I-35 interchange.

According to Carlton fire chief Derek Wolf, the call came in at 9:45 p.m. Sunday. The car fire was fully involved when the firefighters arrived at the scene. They were there for approximately 45 minutes and Wolf said the car was a complete loss. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is unknown and the driver of the car could not be found.

Katelynn Johnson, who was on her way home and watched the firefighters battle the blaze after she pulled over, told the Pine Knot News that the car was completely engulfed in flames. She said the car was sitting in the far left lane on eastbound Highway 210. (Find a video of the fire on the Pine Knot News Facebook page.)

“I am always proud to see such a swift and professional response by our local Carlton fire department crew, especially in the days of departments that are hard to keep running as volunteer departments,” she said.

Wolf expressed thanks to the Minnesota Department of Transportation plow driver who was at the scene assisting with blocking traffic and providing much needed salt and sand on the roadway while firefighters were extinguishing the fire.
