A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
This week I’d like to stray from the usual news that I write about and dedicate this article to Minetties Roadside Diner in Wright, which burned down last week. About 25 firefighters from four area fire departments responded to the blaze. We are so fortunate in our area to have so many brave and capable firefighters.
Owner Minette Juhl said they are rebuilding as soon as they can. In the meantime, customers who relied on breakfast at the diner will be able to visit her other business in Tamarack.
Last week I was subbing in the sixth grade at the Cromwell-Wright school and asked the students to write letters to Minette. Here are a few of the quotes from these caring kids.
“My dad went on the call, I’m sorry about the fire. I heard about it from my dad and then I saw it this morning on the way to school. I think it will look nice once it’s rebuilt.”
“I enjoyed the food. I have many memories from your restaurant and I will always have them. I’m happy you are rebuilding it so I can make new memories!”
“I really liked the food there. I am gluten-free so I am glad that you had the gluten-free options for me. “
“I really feel sad that the café burned down. I was so sad when I heard that I started bawling.”
“I feel bad about the fire. My grandpa and I went there for breakfast and coffee and I liked the bacon cheeseburger the best.”
“What I liked about the diner was that it had good food, nice people to visit with and it had a lot of business. It was a nice place to stop and eat at when I was snowmobiling.”
“I feel mad at the fire, I wish it never happened. The thing I liked about the place is that I got to help.”
So, there you have it. It seems that the students have put into words the feelings of our whole community. We are so sorry for the loss, but with optimism, it will be rebuilt and we will again have a special gathering place in our town of Wright.
There is a bit of other news to pass along, too.
Our community was saddened to hear that Milton Walli, 73, of rural Wright, died from a fall. Our sympathy to his son Michael and daughter Marsha along with brothers and sisters.
