While the temps hovered around a hot zero degrees, it didn’t hinder 92 brave souls coming out to try their skills at Mini Hook and Slice (think crazy mini golf in the snow) during Saturday’s Winterfest celebration in Carlton. The second year of this event did not disappoint, the businesses and organizations that sponsored holes really showed up with some fun and creative obstacles for participants! There were 10 holes, some including sumo bowling, riding a lion while using a croquet club to hit the ball, taking aim at a disc golf cage, taking part in a Hawaiian luau, a hole made completely through a gorgeous snow carving and many more!
Meanwhile, inside the Four Seasons Sports Complex, folks could warm up with some sizzling hot chili entries in the annual Lions Club chili cook-off, which celebrated 23 years. This year three-peat champ Jerry Atkinson took home the gold. Attendees were encouraged to sample the chili and vote for the people’s choice award.
There was plenty of fun for the littles, including face painting, the always popular Zoomobile, participating in games to win free books and more! The indoor rink was also open for skating and many took advantage of this opportunity.
The day ended with some great options, from attending the candlelit ski, snowshoeing and hiking as beautiful Jay Cooke State Park, or heading to the Carlton High School gym to try their luck at Carlton Fire Department Bingo!
Carlton Community Ed director Daisy Rose said the 2019 Carlton Winterfest was a great success, and continues to offer exciting events and activities for everyone. She thanked all the businesses that came together to help sponsor the annual event.
“We can’t wait to see what next year holds for this community celebration!” Rose said.
