Let’s start a roundtable
To the editor:
I’d like to submit an idea. I’d like to start a weekly roundtable in our area. It seems there are so many more experts out there who would be valuable to have their input. A weekly roundtable just might make that possible.
Throughout the course of history many of our iniquities have been solved once the people insisted the veil of secrecy be lifted. “Transparency” is the word I like to use, but for fun it can be said that “light eliminates evil.” It is harder to operate unethically if everyone knows what you are doing.
Some of the hard questions we are faced with today could be solved if we just shine a little light on them. If a discussion could be had with civility, reserving our emotions, we may get somewhere. However, we’d likely need to do this in person, because it is too easy to be misunderstood when talking on the phone or interacting on facebook. No topic would be taboo at this roundtable.
This idea has huge aspirations, but it would be fine just starting off with a few people around the table somewhere. I’d agree to moderate it, keep it open to the public, and maybe have light appetizers and drinks available.
I may be naive but this could be a great idea. If you are interested in getting involved in such a roundtable, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or call me at 218-391-2031.
