CLARIFICATION / CORRECTION

The Feb. 22 news article “With districts locked in, consolidation is out” about consolidation talks between Carlton and Wrenshall school districts contained some inaccuracies in the final paragraph which we would like to clarify.

Which community has historically been most opposed to consolidation is really a matter of opinion, as school board members in both districts have voted against it at different times for different reasons.

While both districts have failed to pass a building referendum over the past couple years — twice for Wrenshall, once for Carlton — Wrenshall voters did pass building referendums to support projects completed in 1956, 1963, 1977, and 1998.

And finally, the story incorrectly stated that both school districts have pulled themselves out of statutory operating debt. Looking over the past 20 years, Wrenshall has not been in SOD, while Carlton was in SOD from 2002-2004 and most recently from 2006-2011. Carlton has been operating in the black since 2012.

We apologize for any confusion.
