Cloquet junior Tyler Harms-Synkiew advanced to the state wrestling tournament last weekend with a second-place finish in the Section 7AA wrestling tournament in Hibbing.
Harms-Synkiew lost in the championship match in 138-pound weight class to David Platt of Hibbing. The top two finishers in each class qualified for the individual state wrestling meet underway this weekend in St. Paul.
Harms-Synkiew had an opening round bye and then defeated Derek Haggberg of Mora by a 5-4 decision. Tyler advanced to the section semifinals, where he pinned Kaleb Adkins of Princeton. Platt won the title with a pin over Harms-Synkiew at the 3:36 mark.
“He is such a great kid,” head coach Al Denman said of Harms-Synkiew, one of a talented group of juniors who led the team this season. “He works so hard and is so dedicated to what he does. I am happy for him and all the kids who did so well and represented CEC in the section tournament.”
