LETTER to the editor
To the editor:
We are spending a lot of time on this consolidation issue between Carlton and Wrenshall school districts.
Why do the school boards get decide if we merge? I have been told the two school boards will talk and then it will come to the public for a vote.
Isn’t that backwards?
I suggest that residents of both Carlton and Wrenshall school districts have a vote on the same day and have a ballot that asks both districts if they want to consider the idea before so much time and energy is put into talks between the school boards. Let’s end “this one says yes, and the other says no.” Let’s see what the people of both districts want. After all, they are the ones who will be paying the bill.
If the answer comes back that both districts agree it’s a good idea, then let’s get the school boards involved and keep the superintendents out of it. This will be a school for the people of the districts.
I’m tired of hearing what the school boards and superintendents say. Let’s hear what the people say and be done with this discussion.
