Alvina A. Merrill, 89, of Cloquet went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 27, 2019, after a brief stay in the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
She was born Jan. 14, 1930 in Bowlus, Minn. to Roman and Mary (Schelonka) Trettel. Alvina was united in marriage to Fred W. Merrill on Feb. 7, 1948 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloquet. She loved the 80-acre farm in Wrenshall, where she enjoyed gardening, hunting, and her strawberry patch. Alvina won awards in bowling and spent a lot of time doing crossword puzzles, reading, baking and playing cribbage. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton.
Alvina will be in our hearts forever.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Merrill; two sons, Kurt Merrill and Kenny Merrill; two daughters, Linda Luoma and Wendy Merrill; granddaughter Shannon Luoma; brother Alois "Shorty" Trettel; sister Jeannette Godbout; and her close friend Sister Mary Rochefort.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Prebarich of Berthoud, Colo. and Tina Mattson of Carlton; her sister and friend, Sister Clare Marie Trettel; special friends Mike Merrill and Bernice Denzler; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m.
Memorial Mass Saturday, April 6 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Carlton, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
