One game, one win

After three postponements, the Cloquet varsity baseball team finally got to play their first game of the season Tuesday at Wade Stadium in Duluth, where they beat Denfeld 8-4.

Senior Jon Baker was the starting pitcher and pitched three innings before winning pitcher Cade Anderson came in and pitched the final four. Anderson, a sophomore, also hit a triple Tuesday and had two RBIs, said coach Rick Norrgard, adding that another sophomore, Zach Tyman, had a couple hits and RBIs.

Norrgard said the team played good defense.

"That was a surprise because we haven't had much of a chance to be outside and take ground balls," he said, adding that the Lumberjacks had only one error. "So it was a pleasant surprise."

Cloquet is scheduled to play - weather permitting - its next home game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against Superior. Games are played at Mettner Field in Athletic Park and admission is free.

Norrgard said they'd love to see a crowd turn out for the game.

"That would be fantastic," he said.
