Double debut: Cloquet opens spring play and renovated theater Thursday

There will be murder, mystery, and plenty of laughs next week when Cloquet High School presents this year's spring play, "CLUE." Based on the cult classic comedy starring Tim Curry and Christopher Lloyd, "CLUE" features all of your favorite characters from the board game: Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Colonel Mustard and more!

The spring play also marks the grand opening of the newly renovated auditorium at CHS, giving audiences a chance to see the beautiful theater for the very first time. The redesign includes brand new seating, state-of-the-art sound and light equipment, and a new color scheme.

"We have lights that move on their own and change colors at the click of a button," said director Alex Goebel, who acted at CHS before going on to make theater his career. "Thanks to all the new tech, this show will be unlike any show Cloquet has done before."

"CLUE" is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys a good laugh.

"I chose the show because it's unlike anything Cloquet has done for a long time," Goebel said. "It's a classic, it's hilarious, and it's a marathon for the actors to perform! Comedy can seem so easy but it's really very challenging and I knew I had some incredibly talented actors who could pull it off."

Performances of "CLUE" begin Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available one hour before each show. Cost is $9 for adults and $6 for students. There are additional performances Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., as well as Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. There is no performance on Friday. The show has one 15-minute intermission.

Concessions will be available for purchase but must be consumed during intermission because there is no food or drink allowed in the new auditorium.
