It's been a busy week for the Wrenshall school district. On Monday, Ellie Swanson's photojournalism class walked through Jay Cooke State Park with Glenn Swanson from the Oldenburg House as part of the countywide project, "Document Spring." This citizen science "bioblitz" brings together students, individuals, and organizations interested in capturing the emergence of spring by artistic and scientific observations. For more information on how you can get involved, see "Earth Day safari" starting on page 10. You can also visit http://www.oacc.us.
The sixth-graders attended the Laurentian Environmental Learning Center Wednesday through Friday. The facility, located in Britt, Minn., is dedicated to inspiring learners' awareness of the natural environment and respect for others through a unique outdoor educational experience.
The Three Act Play performers will present a production of "Larceny and Old Lace" this weekend at Wrenshall School. Showtimes are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. This humorous parody of the 1940s original "Arsenic and Old Lace" follows two elderly women as they try to hide their robbery spree from a loving niece. Mr. Conover has been working with seventh- through 12-graders since mid-February, and the team is excited to bring the joy of theater to the Wrenshall Community. Admission is $5 for adults, free for kids and students.
Kindergarten Round-up is Friday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 12:30-2:30 p.m. Teachers and staff will share their learning philosophy and kids will get a bus ride and a trip through the lunch line. The day is a great way for incoming kindergartners and their family to get to know the school and the program.
The ninth-grade class attended a career fair at Lake Superior College, and the baseball and track teams are busy with meets and games, traveling everywhere from Cloquet to Two Harbors to McGregor and East Duluth. Finally - if you see some fancy dresses at the Brickyard this Saturday, don't panic! Byron hasn't instituted a new dress code, it's just the Wrenshall Senior Prom.
If you were watching PBS last Thursday, you may have seen Wrenshall featured prominently in the program "Making It." Yker Acres and the Food Farm were both featured as local producers providing food for the Duluth Grill. The program can be found streaming online or on the "Making It" Facebook page.
