Letter: Investigation costs cut both ways for Cloquet

To the editor:

After reading that councilors Steve Langley and Dakota Koski and Sarah Marczak Palmer were concerned and questioning the cost to the city of Cloquet of investigations into allegations sent to the city by Wade Lamirande, I was left with numerous questions.

These same people had no concern about the cost to the city of the Steve Stracek investigation, which showed the police department’s vote of no confidence had no merit. No concern was shown about the cost of the Beckman dismissal. Shouldn’t the cost of his salary for all the months of his being off the job be paid by the former mayor and councilors who vetoed his dismissal in 2016?

Councilor Langley suggested that the cost of investigations resulting from Lamirande’s complaints be paid by Lamirande. He failed to offer to share in the cost of the Stracek investigation with the other former councilors and mayor who initiated and authorized that investigation.

It obviously doesn’t work that way, but if it did it should go both ways. Fair is fair, wouldn’t you say?

Lea Ann Walsh, Cloquet
