The tables were turned at the annual "Volunteer Brunch" at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet earlier this month. As volunteers got to relax and enjoy music and a program, department heads from the hospital and Sunnyside Health Care Center served frittatas with cottage fries and salad with mimosas, fresh raspberries and dessert.
Volunteer coordinator Jennifer Stay said there are about 100 volunteers between hospital and care center. They help in a variety of ways, including working in the gift shop, providing greeting and wayfinding assistance at the front desk, and hand massage for nursing home residents and patients.
"We also have volunteers that come and play music, visit with residents, help with resident meals at Sunnyside and even gardening," Stay said.
The newest volunteer opening is helping watch siblings during the Nesting Place meetings every other Saturday.
A total of 62 volunteers attended the May 8 brunch. Stephen Shaner the Attitude Chiropractor shared a message about the power of attitude, and performed magic tricks throughout the presentation. Chris Carlson played music before and after the program.
