Obit: Elizabeth "Bette" Rose Schilling

Elizabeth "Bette" Rose Schilling, 94, of Cloquet, Minn. passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 at Evergreen Knoll in Cloquet. Bette was born in Cloquet on Nov. 19, 1924. She graduated from Cloquet High School in 1943, where she was a member of the marching band. She was united in marriage to Edgar James Schilling at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cloquet on Nov. 30, 1946. Bette was a lifelong Cloquet resident, a devout member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and a former member of Big Lake Golf Club. In addition to maintaining a wonderful home for her family, she was a member of the church choir, and was engaged in a variety of crafts. Most recently, she was a part of a church group that made and distributed quilts for newborns.

Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Schilling; they were married for 57 years. She is also preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Alice Proulx of Cloquet, and her grandson Benjamin Schilling.

She is survived by her sister Lorraine Carter and by her brother James Proulx. Bette had many devoted descendants who miss her deeply: three surviving sons, Robert Schilling (wife Sandra Harris), Timothy Schilling (wife Mei), and Eugene Schilling (wife Anne). Bette was blessed with nine surviving grandchildren including Stephen Schilling, Samantha Schilling, Christine Schilling, Nicholas Schilling, Joshua Schilling, Angela Schilling, Melissa Johnson, Sarah Walt and James Schilling. Given her long life, she also enjoyed 10 great-grandchildren including Owen Schilling, Connor Schilling, Olivia Schilling, William Dunkman, Henry Dunkman, Emily Dunkman, Megan Schilling, Payten Weiderman, Jonas Johnson, and Gunnar Walt.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 20 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, and resuming at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, May 21 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Interment services will follow at New Calvary Cemetery of Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the church social hall.
