Urban "Bear" Felstrup, 94, of Cloquet passed away Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
He was born June 25, 1924, to Andrew and Matilda (Johnson) Felstrup. Urban was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He married Winifred "Freddie" Taylor on Feb. 2, 1946 in Cloquet. Urban was employed at Conwed for more than 30 years and retired in 1989.
Urban was a member of the Dalles Masonic Lodge No. 181 A.F. & A.M. for 60 years and attended the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing and candy making. He and Freddie often traveled to visit their children, grandchildren and other relatives. For the last four years he resided at Barnes Care assisted living in Esko.
Urban was preceded in death by his parents; his wife "Freddie;" brother Carl; and daughter Kristen.
He is survived by his three daughters, Carolyn "Lyndee" Smerdon of Grants Pass, Ore., Andrea (Jim) Councilman of Jackson, Ohio, and Deven (Mike) Hight of Chugiak, Alaska; six grandchildren, Jeff (Rhonda) Smerdon, Chris Smerdon, Jennifer (Lydle) Cain, Cory (Erin) Councilman, Jessie (Scott) Hopper and Jackie (Michael) Blow; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 10:30 a.m. Masonic service, followed by the 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Military honors will be presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. A time of fellowship will follow in the Fellowship Room.
