Woman charged after meth found

An Aitkin woman was arrested June 3 after a police officer found methamphetamine in the car she was sitting in.

Teresa Anne Wells, 36, was charged with felony first-degree drug possession in Carlton County Sixth District Court on June 5.

According to the criminal complaint, an officer from the Fond du Lac Tribal police department received a tip regarding a vehicle on a deadend road in the area of Black Bear Casino that contained controlled substances. When the officer went to the only deadend road in the area, he found a vehicle backed in to the end of the road near a wood line. As he approached the vehicle, the officer allegedly observed a woman in the passenger seat of the front arranging items on the front dash of vehicle, items she then swept to the floor, while making several "furtive movements."

The woman was identified as Wells, and the officer allegedly observed what he believed to be methamphetamine in plain site. After the officer searched the vehicle, he located a quantity of loose meth on the floor of the front passenger area, along with scales, a pipe, a number of baggies of meth and more methamphetamine in a purse containing Wells' identification.

The substances field-tested positive for the presence of meth with a field weight of approximately 93 grams.

Wells posted a noncash bond and is set for an omnibus hearing June 26.
