Carlton, Cloquet alums graduate from college

Chelsie Tischer of Carlton graduated cum laude May 4 from Michigan Technological University with a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering. She is the daughter of Brenda and Mike Tischer.

Cloquet alumnus Gabriel Berg was among the 532 students to graduate from Gustavus Adolphus College during the school’s annual commencement exercises Saturday, June 1. Berg received a bachelor of arts degree in theatre with honors.

Area students make university dean’s lists

Cloquet’s Desiree Hachey made the dean’s List for spring semester at Minnesota State Community and Technical College. The dean’s list includes students who earned a semester grade point average of 3.50 to 3.99 while enrolled in at least six credits of college-level coursework.

Lilly Wallin, a senior at Bethel University in St. Paul, was named to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the spring 2019 semester. She is the daughter of Thomas Wallin from Cloquet. The dean’s list honors students who achieve an outstanding scholastic record during a semester with a grade point average of 3.6 or greater.

Zach Dunaiski of Cloquet was named to the dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the spring semester of the 2018-19 academic year, ending May 2019. To be eligible for the list, students must have earned not less than a 3.5 semester grade point average and carried a minimum of 12 credits.

Apply for free at state schools

The 30 state colleges and seven state universities of Minnesota State will waive application fees during the inaugural “Minnesota State Week,” set for June 24 to 28. During the week, special information events and introductory campus tours will be held at all of the colleges and universities of Minnesota State and online. Prospective students who participate can complete their application for admission free of charge during their visit.

Bemidji State University will take part with campus tours scheduled at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. each day. There will also be free outdoor activities 5-7 p.m. through the Outdoor Program Center, including kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing and sailing.
