A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Hello, Pine Knot News readers. My name is Jordan Allen and I will be an intern for the newspaper this summer, writing stories and taking pictures around the community. Although born in Lafayette, Ind., I have lived in Minnesota for nearly 14 years. This coming school year, I will be a senior at Cloquet High School and I hope to use my internship to interact with people of Cloquet and Carlton County before the school year takes over my time.
This summer, you may see me running the roads and trails around Cloquet or riding my bike to wrestling practice. Once in a while, you may catch me floating my bright blue canoe down the St. Louis River or in one of the nearby lakes. This fall, I will be running cross-country for my sixth season and hope to run with the team at State for the third year in a row. Additionally, I will perform in the Cloquet High School fall musical “The Little Mermaid.” Later this year, I will take to the mat for my 13th and final season as a wrestler with the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton wrestling team. And to finish the year off and my career as a Cloquet student, I will be competing for the Cloquet track team as one of the distance runners.
As much as it feels like it at times, my life isn’t all sports. I am currently a Life Scout in Troop 168 and am working on my Eagle Scout project. I also plan to participate for my second year in Link Crew, helping incoming freshmen learn the ropes of high school and performing community service as a second-year member of the National Honor Society. And whenever there is a Cloquet volleyball, basketball, football, or hockey game, you can bet that I will be a part of our pep band.
Writing has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember: I wrote my first book, “Peter Porcupine,” when I was in third grade and have been passionate about writing ever since. I hope to serve the community well as an intern at the Pine Knot News and plan to write our city’s story faithfully.
