A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news

Knot intern to work ad side

Hello, readers, my name is Caleb Swanson and I am an intern at the Pine Knot News this summer. My parents are Chris and Natalie Swanson.

My job is to work with my friend Jordan, the other intern here, but focussing on the marketing and social media for our local newspaper. Typically, I will be going around taking pictures and video of different activities and opportunities to get outside in Carlton County this summer. I am also going to help develop a marketing campaign for the Pine Knot and work with advertising director Ivan Hohnstadt.

I am going to be a senior this fall at Cloquet High School. During the school year I play sports and participate in different school groups and clubs. I am particularly proud of the club I created this past year with the help of my friends. The Hacky Sack Club is the newest club at Cloquet and its influence can be seen in the halls of the school during any down time students have. I am also a member of the environmental club at my school along with student council and other groups. I play soccer and pole vault on the track team. I was also a proud member of the first boys volleyball team in Cloquet that made the newspaper a few months back.

When I am not in the Hacky Sack Club circle or practicing sports, I am digging through the racks at every thrift store within a 30-minute drive. My friend Sam Buytaert and I have a small business that you can follow on instagram@sickthreadz218. Our focus is supplying our peers with the best thrifted finds this side of the St. Louis River. In doing so, we make a little money for ourselves while supplying cool, cheap clothes to our peers, and play a small role in making our world a better place. Dyeing clothes is one of the biggest water polluters on the planet. After the water is contaminated with dye, it is extremely difficult to reverse the process and use the water for something else. Our hope is to have everyone looking their best and to do our part in keeping our world clean.

You will see me at Hilltop Park playing soccer most days. When I am not playing soccer I like to skateboard and be outside with my friends. Oh, and of course I'll be out working for the Pine Knot News as well.
