Pollinator event at barn
Two unique pollinator events are coming up soon. A Bee Friendly advocacy gathering is set for 4:30-7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13 in the Free Range Festival Barn, and will include a rural art project announcement, pro-pollinator presentations and screening of the “Pollinators Under Pressure” film, along with music and food with honey.
On Saturday, July 20 efforts really get buzzing with a Bee Friendly Day in Carlton, including a 9 a.m. bike ride starting at the Carlton Bike Rental and Repair shop, “bee calm” yoga at 10 a.m. at the Oldenburg House, bee storytime at the bike pavilion at 11 a.m., followed by Dan, Dan the Monkey Man at noon. At 1 p.m., learn about pollinator gardens at the Carlton Greenhouse and enjoy all kinds of art events in downtown Carlton 1-4 p.m.
Fun run, walk is on Saturday
The ninth annual Kaleb Anderson Memorial Fun Run and Walk will take place Saturday, July 6 in Cromwell. Race-day registration for the 5K is 7:30-8 a.m. at Cromwell Pavilion Park. The run starts at 8:15 a.m., and the walk starts at 8:30 a.m. There is a Kiddie K run for children ages 6 and under at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a pancake breakfast 7-10 a.m. Proceeds will be used to purchase playground equipment for the Cromwell Pavilion.
The Cloquet Color Run is set for Saturday, July 13 at Pine Valley Park in Cloquet. Online registration ends July 11 but runners can also register at 7:30 a.m on race day.
Agate fest turns 50
The Moose Lake Agate Days event celebrates 50 years this year, and organizers have planned two solid days’ worth of activities for rockhounds or folks just looking for fun July 13-14. Once again, dump trucks will travel down Elm Avenue depositing rocks, 400 pounds of agates and $400 in quarters for the Clark-Olsen Agate Stampede at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Gem and Mineral Show runs through both days at Riverside Arena, and there will be free shuttle rides between the arena and Art in the Park Saturday.
