Cromwell-Wright news

It seems that summer is really flying by again this year. There are just so many activities to take part in and only so many weekends to get them in. But with this in mind I am asking, no, begging, for volunteers to help out at the Little Red School House at the Carlton County Fair Aug. 15-18 in Barnum. The Carlton County Retired Educators have volunteered for many years at the Little Red School House and need more help this year, as many members have died, and many others can no longer help. Give me a call at 218-357-2385 or 808-366-6582 if you can help out for a couple of hours. Those who have helped say they really love it. You don’t have to be an educator to volunteer, just willing to help.

Thanks go out to everyone who attended, and especially those worked at, the Cromwell Area Community Club steak fry, talent show and silent auction June 28. This is always a great way to meet and greet your friends and neighbors in the area.

The Bethlehem Quilters have finished up for another year. The group of between four and seven women made more than 30 quilts this year — quite an accomplishment. Quilts are donated to Damiano, Union Gospel, or area folks or confirmands.

Bethlehem and Bethany Lutheran parish’s new minister, Pastor Debra L. Hanson-Carlson, will lead her first worship service July 7. She brings a wealth of real-world experience to her ministry, having taught K-12 and serving as a professional therapist in various settings.

The United Methodist Church in Cromwell has a new pastor, Roger Parrish-Siggelkow, who will lead his first service at 9 a.m. July 7. Before becoming a pastor, Pastor Roger and his wife, Marnie, traveled the Midwest singing for children as The Flyers. He hopes all they meet will see the reality of the good news among us and explore the life of faith with them.

Community yoga meets at 11 a.m. every Monday in July at the Cromwell Pavilion. Cost is $3 per session to offset the cost of using the venue.

The Bethany-Bethlehem memorial committee will meet at 10 a.m. July 15 at the Villa Vista to pay tribute to the residents who passed away in the past couple of months. All area folks are urged to attend or join the committee, which spends time singing, remembering, and paying tribute to their friends. Some of the committee members include Pat Cain, Jeanne Hansen, Lois Jobe, Elaine Crouch, Jennie K. Hanson, Siiri Peterson and Carol Hutar. Just call Jeanne Hansen for more information.

The binder of Bethany Lutheran Church confirmation pictures, from 1955 to the present, is missing. If anyone has it at home, please bring it back. The gray binder has a photo of the old church on the cover. Thanks.

Aurelia Hemmila has now made her home at the Carefree Living assisted living community in McGregor. I’m sure visitors would be welcome. The address is 22027 420th St., Room 6, McGregor MN 55760; phone 218-768-3356
