A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
The 54th annual Wrong Days in Wright is now just a memory and, WOW, was it a success! I guess with all the activities to choose from, it will continue to grow. It was great to see so many folks come back to our community from all over the country, and the fireworks were just great too. Plan on coming to the 55th annual Wrong Days events July 17-19, 2020.
We congratulate this year's Wrong Days in Wright queen, Sophia Nelson, daughter of Danielle Richards and granddaughter of Cindye Richards and John Richards. Sophia said she ran for queen because she knows lots of people and thought it would be fun. This year's runner-up is Elliana Lundberg, daughter of Erik and Cindy Lundberg and granddaughter of Gregg and Linda Lundberg and Frank and Cindy Webb. Elli was also last year's queen, so she has lots of practice selling buttons. (Together, she and Sophia sold more than 600 buttons this year.)
By the way, the Wrong Days committee sold all of the buttons and raffle tickets for the first time in years, thanks to the great support of our community and surrounding areas. We apologize to those who came for the horseshoes tournament. It seems the bean bag tournament has taken over, as the older generation who played horseshoes are no longer active or have left us. If you have any suggestions for next year's celebration, please let a member of the committee know or come to the next meeting.
The WD's parade was longer than ever too, with the addition of 16 cars from the Corvette Club, and 18 other units in the parade including the VFW Post 8299 of Floodwood, which led the parade with the American flag, followed by Wrong Days queen Sophia Nelson and runner-up Elli Lundberg, House District 11A Rep. Mike Sundin on his dirt bike, the Anderson Farm, the McGregor Lions Club, Olesiak Livestock, several Cromwell-Wright fire trucks and the ambulance, Sheriff Kelly Lake, Frank and Louise Fabin's 1936 Plymouth four-door convertible, Kivi Brothers Trucking, Jeff Dotseth (running for House District 11-A in 2020), Minetties, and Kangas Sewer Service.
There was a special float for the Cromwell-Wright youth baseball team. They are the 2019 Greater Savanna League youth baseball champions! This year's team went undefeated, and the coaches and players would like to thank everyone in the Wright and Cromwell area for their support this season. The coaches would also like to thank the outgoing sixth-graders Aiden Juhl, Jackson Eastman, Dylan Nyberg, Brady Dahl, Tucker Korpi, Jack Irving and Wyatt Kabus for a great season.
There were more than 30 classmates and spouses from the class of 1961 getting together over the weekend. Descendents of Isaak and Maria Haukkala Walli gathered at Lakeside Cemetery southeast of Wright (read Ann Markusen's column for more on that). The Oja family also had an opportunity to gather over the weekend and spent many meaningful hours together.
There are plenty of upcoming events too:
