From The Wrens Nest: Brickyard Days are upon us

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Brickyard Days is here! The official festivities are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, but there will be reunions and revelry throughout the whole weekend. In fact, the get-togethers have already begun. The Wrenshall Class of 1965 enjoyed their yearly reunion at VIP Pizza in Superior with their former teacher, Irene Gigliotti, lovingly referred to as "Mrs. G."

Gigliotti taught in Wrenshall, along with her husband, Orlando Gigliotti, from 1956 to 1983. Audrey Kavenaugh is one of her former students and always tries to make the dinner. "I just love Mrs. G!"

While younger than the class of 1965, James Sheetz (class of 1978) joins the party every year as well. "She was just an excellent teacher," says Sheetz. "She instilled ownership in learning that has stuck with me to this day. And she is a total stickler for grammar and correct word placement. I will always remember the difference between 'I should have gone' and 'I should have went.'"

Don't get caught saying either of those things about Brickyard Days this weekend! The festivities include a walk/run, a parade, live music, and free ice cream. There is plenty more, but I just can't get past the free ice cream. Enjoy the party!
