A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
If school feels like the far distant future, think again. Cloquet activities director Paul Riess wants to remind parents that fall activities officially start Monday, Aug. 12. Fall activities include cross-country running, girls tennis, girls swimming and diving, boys and girls soccer, football and volleyball.
Although Aug. 12 is the first date coaches can conduct practices or tryouts, most of the teams are already holding captain’s practices, which are organized and run by the various team captains rather than the coaches.
For families new to fall sports or who need a reminder, Riess offered the following:
1. Athletes and parents can find forms and information about fall activities under the activities tab at https://www.isd94.org;
2. Each student must have a current physical examination form on file before practicing. Athletic physicals are good for three years. Local clinics have the form; students should inform them that they need an athletic physical and request that they use the MSHSL physical form. The physical form is also available online on the school website isd94.org or at CHS. Students who already have a current physical form on file with the school don’t need to do anything.
3. Athletes who are new to the Cloquet school district or Esko and Carlton for co-op activities should contact Paul Riess at [email protected] in the activities office so he can check MSHSL eligibility. Cooperative teams include boys soccer and girls swimming and tennis (Cloquet-Esko-Carlton) and girls soccer (Cloquet and Carlton).
The Aug. 12 practice date holds true for all schools in the state. Find Cloquet fall game schedules at http://www.isd94.org by clicking on the “online calendar” option under the activities tab.
