The Carlton County Historical Society needs volunteers to help greet visitors, sell items and talk about Carlton County history at its machinery building and log cabin at the county fair in Barnum, Aug. 14-19. Volunteers demonstrating period-relevant activities such as cooking on a wood stove, weaving, sewing, spinning, wood carving, playing a musical instrument or other period-relevant are needed for the log cabin. Storyteller Rose Arrow- smith DeCoux presents stories of “Brave Girls, Wise Women” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Carlton Area Public Library. Daring heroines reclaim fairytales as fierce, funny, and feminine. All ages welcome to this 60-minute program geared toward ages 7-12; stories will likely be too long for kids younger than 6.

Volunteer Services Program coordinator Cari Terrio-Johnson and Carlton Wellness Center manager Brenda Weston will speak about helping older adults with living independently while promoting health and wellness.
