Recent reports from Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation officers in the area:
Scott Staples (Carlton) assisted the State Patrol with an ATV accident in which a juvenile hit a pickup truck while trying to cross State Highway 210. Assistance was given to the Michigan DNR after a report of a dead collared wolf. The wolf was located and found to have been killed by a motor vehicle. Data from the collar showed that in the past year the wolf travelled from the Upper Peninsula, across Wisconsin, back to Michigan and then into Minnesota.
Jacob Willis (Brookston) patrolled the west Duluth area by ATV, where there have been complaints of ATVs operating where prohibited. Angling activity has slowed, but recreational boating activity is way up. Enforcement action was taken for unregistered watercraft, no personal flotation device, failure to display registration and for fishing in an area permanently closed to angling.
Report of the week
Chris Vinton (Perham) responded to a call about a deer acting suspiciously. It didn’t appear the deer was sick, just maybe sick of the deer flies and mosquitos.
