David “Toivo” Roy Alaspa, 65, of Cloquet, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019 at University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He was born June 16, 1954 in Cloquet to Toivo and Helen (Kolehmainen) Alaspa. David’s mother always called him “lovable Davey” but he was nicknamed “Toivo” after his father. He was a very good hockey player, was popular in school and was liked by all his classmates. David was a 1972 graduate of Cloquet High School. Throughout his life he worked various jobs and was a member of the Finlandia Beach Club. David always had a smile, was funny with a good sense of humor, loved his dog Satch, and was a gentle soul. He will be missed.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Walter “Sonny,” Harold “Butch,” and Alan Alaspa.
He is survived by his sister Delores (Jack) Crowley, numerous nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends.
Services were held in the morning Monday, Aug. 26, 2019 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet.
