As I sat down to type this week’s news I noticed that the date is a numerical palindrome, 9-1-19, meaning it can be read forward or backward and it’s the same number. There will be 10 more like it this month. They are: 9-10-19, 9-11-19, 9-12-19, 9-13-19, 9-14-19, 9-15-19, 9-16-19, 9-17-19, 9-18-19 and 9-19-19. The next one won’t be until 2-2-22. There are only 38 palindrome numbers in this century and we get to observe 11 of them this month.

Back in 1967, I was working as a nurse’s aide at the Nopeming sanatorium near Duluth when I asked a 90-year old resident if she wanted me to help her “lay” down. She snapped back: “People lie. Chickens lay.” She was a retired English teacher and I never forgot that saying. So remember, when you are tired and want to rest, you will lie down.
